Schumer’s drop in approval ratings comes after several months of debate surrounding the Iranian nuclear agreement, which was approved by the US Congress on September 17. Schumer opposed the deal, but was undecided on the issue for several weeks.

The poll found that the majority of New York voters opposed the agreement and 57 percent of voters believe it will make the world less safe.

"New York State voters agree with Sen. Charles Schumer’s opposition to the Iran nuclear deal, but that doesn’t stop the drop in his approval rating," Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Maurice Carroll said.

The poll was conducted from September 10 to September 15, and surveyed 1,366 New York State voters.
