"The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to relations with Russia… and we are taking all the necessary measures to step up cooperation with you," Zarif said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
According to the Iranian minister, the nuclear agreement reached in July has great importance for developing relations and cooperation between the two countries, "including in the defense sector."
Russia is one of six international mediators that reached a final agreement with Tehran on its controversial nuclear program in July to ensure a peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Lavrov and Zarif are also expected to discuss cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism, fight against drug trafficking, and the development of bilateral economic cooperation.
