"We share a concern about Yemen and the need to restore a functioning government that is inclusive and that can relieve the humanitarian situation there," Obama said before the meeting with the Saudi King. "We share concerns about the crisis in Syria and had the opportunity to discuss how we can arrive at a political transition process within Syria that can finally end the horrific conflict there."
Obama noted he will also discuss with King Salman the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal and address Saudi and other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) concerns about the agreement’s possible implications on regional security.
Moreover, the two leaders will address non-military issues such as cooperation on education, global economic issues, climate change, science and energy.
The visit by the 79-year old King Salman is his first trip to Washington since he succeeded his brother, King Abdullah, to the throne.
