MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - Over 10 people died due to a searing heat wave in China’s city of Shanghai with temperatures standing above 38 degrees Celsius (over 100 Fahrenheit) for eight days in a row, Xinhua news agency reported.

The agency reported citing the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention that this year’s July was the hottest ever registered since weather records monitoring started 140 years ago.

“Over 30 percent of the patients, who died were hit by summer heat when they were indoors,” the agency reported citing the center.

In a vivid example of the sizzling heat in Shanghai, the Chinese financial and business center, a reporter from Shanghai TV roasted pork slices on outdoor marble within just 10 minutes, the agency said.

According to CNN weather forecast, temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius will remain in Shanghai at least until Sunday.
