A Kazakh district court on Thursday ruled that the film Innocence of Muslims was extremist and issued a nationwide ban on its distribution, Judge Kuanysh Zhaksybergenov said.

The Kazakh Prosecutor’s Office initiated proceedings on September 21, calling for a ban on the film's import, duplication and distribution in Kazakhstan on religious hatred and extremism grounds.

Moscow's Tverskoi District Court declared the film extremist on Monday.

Last Friday, a court in Grozny, the capital of Russia's mainly Islamic Republic of Chechnya also ruled against the film’s distribution. The Grozny court ordered that restrictions on the distribution of the film be implemented before the ruling formally comes into force, according to Chechnya's Media Ministry.

Mobile network operators have agreed to carry out the court's instructions.
