MOSCOW, November 17 (R-Sport) - Lowly FC Volga held Spartak Moscow to a 1-1 draw in the Russian Premier League on Saturday.
Spartak, who host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday, jump Terek Grozny into fourth place and go to 29 points, seven adrift of leaders CSKA Moscow.
The team from Nizhny Novgorod remain 14th, now on 12 points.
Russia international midfielder Dmitry Kombarov put Spartak ahead with a spectacular free kick on 13 minutes, sending a rocket into the top corner from 25 yards.
Alexander Salugin leveled it in first-half stoppage time, poking home from a yard out after Spartak goalkeeper Artem Rebrov flapped at a cross.
Volga put in a spirited performance against their illustrious opponents from the capital and got just reward for their efforts.
Volga were a constant threat going forward, and Salugin should have scored either side of Kombarov's opener.
He first volleyed over when unmarked at the near post, then shoot straight at Rebrov when clean through.
Rebrov dived to his left to deny Ilya Maximov with a superb reflex save on 70 minutes.
The match saw a muted performance from Spartak's Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike, who returned to the starting lineup after a back injury.
Later Saturday, Dynamo Moscow host Zenit St. Petersburg; Alania Vladikavkaz play their first game since the resignation of coach Vladimir Gazzaev against Rubin Kazan; and CSKA look to extend their three-point lead at the top against strugglers Amkar Perm.
On Sunday, Mordovia Saransk play FC Kuban and Anzhi Makhachkala host David Bentley's FC Rostov. The round ends with two matches Monday: Lokomotiv Moscow travel to Krylya Sovetov and FC Krasnodar entertain Terek.
