MOSCOW, November 12 (R-Sport) - U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has recalled striker Jozy Altidore and picked several youngsters in a 20-man squad to face Russia in a friendly Wednesday, U.S. Soccer announced Monday.

AZ Alkmaar striker Altidore, who has 51 caps, is usually a regular but was dropped for the U.S.’ last two games against Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.

Klinsmann hinted at personal disagreements between the pair and dissatisfaction with Altidore’s recent form.

“He was left out of the last games against Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala because of the way he played in Jamaica and maybe a couple other things from the previous months that I wasn’t so happy about,” Klinsmann was quoted as saying on the U.S. Soccer website.

“I mentioned it to him, and now having him back in the group gives us an opportunity to talk through that stuff and also to see his total commitment on the field.”

Nurnberg defender Timmy Chandler returns to the U.S. setup after a year out amid uncertainty over whether he will commit to the U.S. or to Germany, whose nationality he also holds.

Chandler, 22, is still free to choose, as he has not yet played a competitive senior international, but has made eight friendly appearances for the U.S.

“With his dual citizenship situation and having a choice, it’s a big, big decision,” Klinsmann said.

“He knows now that once he makes the final decision that’s going to be his life. So I don’t want to put any pressure in a situation like that. The choice should come from the player.”

Klinsmann could also hand first caps to wingers Joshua Gatt and Joseph Gyau in Russia on Wednesday.

Only three of the squad play for U.S. club sides, with five more in Germany’s Bundesliga and three plying their trade in the English Premier League.

The friendly is a key warm-up for World Cup qualifiers in the spring.
