Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored Saturday as his lockout team Dynamo Moscow routed Atlant Moscow Region 4-1 on the road to go top of the KHL's Western Conference.

Ovechkin scored his fifth goal since joining Dynamo last month as he hit the first goal of the game.

Dynamo's other goals came from Ilya Gorokhov, Konstantin Gorovikov and Konstantin Volkov, while Jonas Andersson hit the target for Atlant, now on a five-game losing streak.

Dynamo now has two more points than second-placed SKA St. Petersburg, which has played two fewer games. Atlant is ninth.

Elsewhere, a dramatic goal four seconds from the final horn helped Gagarin Cup runner-up Avangard Omsk come from behind to beat Severstal Cherepovets 3-2 on penalty shots on the road.

Controversial defenseman Anton Belov, who was involved in a doping scandal during last season’s playoffs, leveled the score for Avangard in the dying seconds with Severstal on a power-play.

Earlier, the teams had exchanged goals in the first two periods before Vadim Schipachev put

Severstal 2-1 ahead seven minutes into the third period.

After scoreless overtime, Nashville Predators wing Sergei Kostitsyn scored the decisive penalty shot.

Avangard clinched its fifth consecutive win and is fifth in the East, three points behind leader Traktor Chelyabinsk, while Severstal is sixth in the West.
