The KHL’s top goalscorer Martin Thornberg struck twice to help his team Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod complete a 6-2 home victory over Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk and extend its win streak to four games.

Torpedo climbs to fourth in the Western Conference, while Yugra languishes in 11th position in the East five weeks into the season.

Alexander Ovechkin's Dynamo Moscow leads in the West, while Sibir Novosibirsk heads up the East.

In Moscow on Friday the Swede increased his goal haul to 10 and trails only teammate Dmitry Makarov in overall points after the Russian grabbed three assists to go to 18 the season.

The hosts had established a comfortable 4-1 lead by the end of the second period thanks Thornberg's double and goals from ex-Edmonton Oiler Robert Nillson and forward Ruslan Zainullin.

The third period was mostly a formality with Torpedo’s Semyon Valuysky and Yugra's Anton Krysanov exchanging goals before Vladimir Galuzin hit his team's sixth off the goaltender’s back.

Torpedo's clash with Evgeni Malkin’s Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Monday will likely see the debut of Carolina Hurricane’s forward Alexander Semin, who signed a lockout contract with the team earlier this week.
