New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov has signed a lockout contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, the KHL team announced on its website.

Volchenkov, who had been linked with another KHL team, Atlant Moscow Region, is to arrive in Russia on Sunday, Torpedo said late Friday.

The 30 year old started his career in Moscow and played for CSKA and Krylya Sovetov before moving to North America.

Volchenkov joined the Devils on a six-year deal in 2010 after spending seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

The Stanley Cup finalist has notched up 130 points in 642 NHL games.

Earlier this week, Torpedo president Oleg Kondrashov claimed that the team would also sign Carolina Hurricanes forward Alexander Semin, who is playing for his hometown team Sokol Kransoyarsk in Russia’s second-tier VHL league.

Torpedo is ninth in the Western Conference, with four wins in 11 games.
