Striker Dmitry Sychev scored twice in a rare appearance for Lokomotiv Moscow as they beat third-tier minnows Torpedo Armavir 3-0 in the Russian Cup onWednesday.
Sychev last played for Lokomotiv on August 4 in the Russian Premier League 3-1 defeat to FC Krasnodar, where he spent the final 12 minutes on the pitch.
He was in the starting line-up against Torpedo in Armavir and scored from the penalty spot on 38 minutes, before tapping home in the 72nd minute.
In between, Felipe Caicedo scored from a rebound on 64 minutes after Dmitry Torbinsky’s long-range effort was parried by goalkeeper Vladislav Makoev.
Slaven Bilic's side face Terek Grozny, who beat Spartak Nalchik 3-1 on Tuesday, in the round of 16.
Elsewhere, Mordovia Saransk beat Lokomotiv’s farm club Lokomotiv-2 by one goal to nil courtesy of Alexei Ivanov’s goal, to set up an encounter with league champions Zenit St. Petersburg.
FC Rostov overcame third-tier FC Astrakhan 3-1, with the Premier League team scoring twice in the second half after being level with their opponent in the first.
Alexander Cauna’s strike from outside of the area was enough for CSKA Moscow to overpower second-tier FC Tomsk 1-0, who were without striker Garry O’Connor.
