KHL defenseman Denis Sokolov has returned to training after he lost almost half a liter of blood in a freak on-ice incident earlier this month, his team Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg said Wednesday.
Sokolov had the carotid artery in his neck sliced open by the blade of ex-NHL center Jan Bulis during his team's 3-0 defeat to Traktor Chelyabinsk on September 10.
The 35-year-old player was immediately taken to hospital, where surgeons stitched up the wound.
Sokolov has made a quick recovery and could be back for Thursday's trip to Siberian team Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk.
Avtomobilist finished last season bottom of the Eastern Conference, and has won just one of its first three games this season.
