British bobsled athlete Simon Carty has been suspended from competition for two years over a doping violation and will miss the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the U.K. Anti-Doping body said Tuesday.
Carty tested positive for clenbuterol, an asthma drug that can help build muscle mass, following an out-of-competition test on February 28, and was provisionally suspended from April 4.
“Athletes are responsible for anything found in their system, and are subject to testing at any time," U.K. Anti-Doping chief executive Andy Parkinson was quoted as saying by the website.
Carty, 23, is a brakeman who was considered a front-runner to make the Team GB squad for the Sochi Games. He took part in four European Cup and two America's Cup events last year, with a top result of fourth place in the four-man bob in Park City, Utah, in November.
Clenbuterol is the same substance for which Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador had his 2010 Tour de France and 2011 Giro d'Italia titles revoked.
