The KHL should adopt a more businesslike approach, Canadian hockey legend Glenn Anderson told R-Sport on Thursday.

Anderson and other Canadian former stars, including Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, took part in a match Wednesday against Soviet players to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series.

“In order to make progress, the KHL should become a business or you will lose a huge amount of money every year. You need that to build a successful business and successful hockey teams,” the six-time Stanley Cup winner said.

“KHL is making progress every year, but it’s still a lot to be done. I watched the final series last year and attended the game in Moscow on Tuesday – it was fantastic.”

Tuesday's first game of the new KHL season saw champion team Dynamo Moscow beat last year’s runner-up Avangard Omsk on penalty shots after a 2-2 tie at Moscow’s Megasport arena.
