The British government has apologized for an incident in which a bus carrying Russian Paralympic athletes was damaged in what a Russian coach said was a shooting, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

The British government has apologized for an incident in which a bus carrying Russian Paralympic athletes was damaged in what a Russian coach said was a shooting, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Russian sitting volleyball coach Viktor Dyakov told R-Sport on Tuesday that the bus carrying his team had been shot at.

“There was one shot. The bullet hit the window and it smashed,” he said.

“I think that the shot was intended for the driver.”

A spokesperson for London’s Metropolitan Police told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that an investigation of the incident had found no evidence of a shot being fired, and suggested a stone had hit the vehicle instead.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that it had received an apology from Britain.

“The British side, which ensures the safety of the athletes at the Paralympic Games, has apologized in connection with the incident,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The Russian embassy in Britain and the Russian Paralympic delegation are in close contact with British law enforcement,” the ministry said, adding that it expected British police to reach a conclusion on the incident soon.
