A Moscow city court found two Chechen natives guilty of the 2008 murder of Russian politician Ruslan Yamadayev.

Ruslan Yamadayev, a member of Russia's State Duma (lower house of parliament), was gunned down in his car in downtown Moscow in September 2008 when returning from a meeting at the Kremlin.

The court sentenced Aslanbek Dadayev, who is considered Yamadayev's direct killer, to 20 years imprisonment. Elimpasha Khatsuev, who allegedly drove the car from which Dadayev shot Yamadayev, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

A prosecutor said the defendants denied their guilt in most of the charges against them.

According to investigators, Dadayev and Khatsuev were commissioned to kill Yamadayev. They had allegedly been trailing the politician for some time before they committed the assassination on September 24, 2008.

Yamadayev was a prominent opponent of Chechnya's pro-Moscow president, Ramzan Kadyrov, who has denied any involvement in the killing.

Ruslan's brother Sulim, a Hero of Russia who commanded the elite Vostok Battalion in Chechnya, died in Dubai on March 28, 2009. He was allegedly shot in the chest with three bullets from a gold-plated gun in the car park of a luxury apartment complex where he was living with his wife and children.

Isa, a third brother of the Yamadayev clan, said an attempt on his life was made in July 2009.

In August Isa announced he had normalized relations with Kadyrov. Isa said the conflict between them had been artificially provoked by the media, adding that he feels no distaste toward the Chechen president.
