India, Germany Sign Cooperation Deals on Security, Energy

Indian and German officials signed several memoranda of understanding, including on Indo-German security cooperation, aviation security, solar energy partnership and agricultural studies, according to the Indian Foreign Ministry.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — German and Indian authorities signed several bilateral agreements on cooperation in various fields, including energy, security and agriculture, during German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to India, the Indian Foreign Ministry said Monday.

Merkel is visiting India October 4-6 to discuss renewable energy, military cooperation and anti-terrorist efforts with Indian authorities.

According to the ministry, Indian and German officials have signed several memoranda of understanding, including on Indo-German security cooperation, aviation security, solar energy partnership and agricultural studies.

Merkel India Visit to Focus on Berlin-New Delhi Economic Cooperation
Declarations on disaster management, railway development, as well as a statement on food safety are among other agreements signed during Merkel's visit.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that Berlin was "a natural partner" to achieve the country's vision of economic transformation, in a statement at a joint press briefing with the German chancellor.

Modi also said in the statement that India-Germany partnership would be enhanced in defense, intelligence, trade in advanced technology, as well as countering terrorism and radicalism.
