MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The discrepancies between the pre-election promises and the real political line of the French government explain the consistently low rating of President Francois Hollande, French lawmakers told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"The election pledges of the current president and the prime minister are very far from the reality, and the population understands it," Nicolas Dhuicq, member of the Union for a Popular Movement who represents the Aube region in the French National Assembly, said.

His colleague, Jacques Myard, blames Frances international obligations, which constrain the country’s leadership, for Hollande’s failure to fulfill his promises.

"One of the reasons for the loss of trust is the inability of French politicians to carry out their plans because they are constrained by multilateral rules. … At the moment the country is enchained by certain fetters, by certain multilateral rules and by renunciation of its sovereignty, thus it lacks the ability to act independently," Myard told Sputnik.

Francois Hollande won the French presidential election on May 6, 2012, becoming the second socialist leader of the Fifth Republic after Francois Mitterrand.
