UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised China's constructive role in the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

UNITED NATIONS, (Sputnik) – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has commended the constructive role played by China on the Korean Peninsula, and its contribution to multifaceted cooperation between developing countries.

"The Secretary-General commended the constructive role played by China on the situation on the Korean Peninsula," the UN read-out said Monday.

China Vows to Play 'Constructive Role' to Settle South, North Korea Issue
"He appreciated China’s leadership and vision in South-South cooperation, including through regional economic and financial initiatives," the statement continued.

On Monday, Ban met with Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China. The UN chief is due to travel to China on Thursday for the country's commemoration of the end of World War Two.
