Russian President Vladimir Putin's possible bilateral meetings in New York are being planned as foreign colleagues have voiced requests to meet, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian president is set to travel to New York to attend the UN General Assembly.

"As for possible bilateral contacts, they are still in the works. We have requests for meetings," Ushakov said.

On August 19, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a meeting between Putin and US President Barack Obama within the framework of the UN Assembly was possible, should the White House initiate steps to organize one.
