One of the Indian capital’s most prestigious halls, the Kamani Auditorium, was the venue for the staging of the ballet The Stone Flower, performed by students of the Russian Ballet School attached to the Russian Center of Science and Culture in New Delhi.

One of the Indian capital’s most prestigious halls, the Kamani Auditorium, was the venue for the staging of the ballet The Stone Flower, performed by students of the Russian Ballet School attached to the Russian Center of Science and Culture in New Delhi. Most of the students are Indian but young people come from 15 different countries to study at the school, including from Australia, Great Britain, the United States, Japan, Israel, France and Canada.

The event aroused a great deal of interest, getting hold of a ticket for The Stone Flower proving next to impossible. National classical dance is incredibly popular in India and people here know a lot about choreography so there is a very respectful attitude toward Russian ballet. The leading roles were performed by Indian students: the Mistress of Copper Mountain was played by Sasha Shetti, the stonecutter Danila was performed by 18-year-old Mokhan and Katerina by the very young 14-year-old student at the school Ria Goiyal.

Overall there are 160 students at the Russian Ballet School attached to the Russian Center of Science and Culture in New Delhi, ranging in age from 6 to 18. The younger group put on the aquamarine dance.
