MOSCOW, (Sputnik) — The research stressed that the three Baltic countries had already asked NATO for permanent presence.
"…London will, in conjunction with local and regional allies, need to establish permanent NATO military garrisons in Estonia; Latvia; Lithuania; and Romania, the four most exposed countries along the ‘eastern flank," the report said.
Last year, the relations between Russia and the West deteriorated as the European Union, the United States along with their allies accused Moscow of escalation of the Ukrainian crisis and annexation of Crimea.
Moscow has repeatedly dismissed all the accusations, stressing that Russia stands for peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, and warning that NATO’s military expansion increases tensions, threatening regional and international stability.
Crimea and the city of Sevastopol rejoined Russia in March 2014 after 96 percent of residents voted for reunification in a referendum.
