MOSCOW, November 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Defense Ministry’s new leadership will press ahead with the reforms begun under the previous minister, Anatoly Serdyukov, making some adjustments as needed, a ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

“The defense minister [Sergei Shoigu] has assured us that we will continue the work that has been done before,” said spokesperson Darya Zatulina, adding that some “minor things” will need to be “fixed.”

Shoigu also issued specific instructions concerning the dismantling of decommissioned ammunition, the transfer of the property of some military bases to local authorities, and healthcare issues, the press secretary said.

He also asked the ministry’s senior officials to pay special attention to “military-patriotic indoctrination of Russian citizens and everything pertaining to the preservation of Russia’s historic and cultural values.”

Zatulina did not elaborate.

Shoigu, former emergencies and civil defense minister and later Moscow region governor, replaced Serdyukov as defense minister on November 6.

Serdyukov was fired following a financial scandal at the ministry involving the Oboronservis defense property management company. An investigation is continuing into embezzlement at the company and several top managers have been arrested following searches at the company's offices.
