MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Saudi-led coalition has denied targeting a drinking water factory in an airstrike that killed some 40 people in Yemen, according to a coalition spokesman.
On Sunday, media reported that the Saudi-led coalition airstrike in Yemen’s northern province of Hajjah claimed the lives of at least 36 innocent civilians.
"We got very accurate information about this position and attacked it. It is not a bottling factory," Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri said Sunday, as quoted by Al Jazeera.
Asseri added that the airstrike destroyed a bomb-making factory operated by Houthi militants.
Since early 2015, Yemen has been engulfed in military conflict between Houthis, the country’s main opposition faction, and government forces.
In late March, a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states began airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen at the request of Yemeni President-in-exile Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
