Live Updates: Number of COVID-19 Cases in India Rises by Over 39,000

The total number of COVID-19 cases stands at over 202 million globally, while the death toll has surpassed 4.28 million worldwide, according to Baltimore, Maryland's Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data on the pandemic.
The United States, India, and Brazil are the three worst-hit countries amid the pandemic: the US has registered almost 35.7 million infected and more than 616,000 deaths, India has around 31.9 million cases and 427,000 dead, while Brazil has the second-highest death toll, 562,000, and over 20 million infected.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi received the first dose of the Iranian-produced COVID-19 vaccine, state-run Press TV reported on Sunday.

Raisi was administered the homegrown COVIran Barekat vaccine, the news said.

In early May, Iran began production of its first vaccine, developed by the Execution of Imam Khomeini's Order jointly with Barekat Pharmaceutical Group. On June 14, the vaccine was approved for emergency use. Iranian authorities announced that three more domestic vaccines were expected to be authorized in the near future.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has already received both shots of COVIran Barekat in late June and July.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia registered 22,866 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, up from 22,320 the day before, taking the overall tally to 6,447,750, the federal response centre said on Sunday.

"Over the past day, 22,866 COVID-19 cases were confirmed across 85 Russian regions, including 1,953 cases (8.5%) without clinical symptoms", the centre said, adding that the rate of increase stands at 0.36%.

TOKYO (Sputnik) - Tokyo has logged 26 new COVID-19 cases related to the Olympic Games over the past 24 hours, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee said on Sunday.

Among those who tested positive were personnel, volunteers, contractors, as well as media representatives. No athletes got infected over the given period.
