"As to components produced in the EU and NATO, they will be completely replaced in 2021, but 90 percent of them will be substituted as early as in 2018," Rogozin told reporters during a working trip to Krasnodar.
"All Ukrainian components will be replaced in 2018 at the latest," Rogozin, who oversees Russia's defense and space industry, said.
According to Rogozin, the substitution list includes 186 products from Ukraine and some 800 products from the EU and NATO.
Moscow’s relations with Kiev and the West deteriorated greatly amid the Ukrainian crisis which escalated in 2014. Since then, NATO has increased its military presence in Eastern Europe.
In May, Ukraine adopted a new national security strategy. According to Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, the document lists Russia as the most prominent threat to the country’s security and outlines the conditions for successful European integration and accession to NATO.
Tensions with the West have resulted in the adoption of an import substitution program by Russia, particularly, in the military and space sectors.
