Tehran Will Not Allow US to Interfere in Iran's Internal Affairs

Iran has vowed to prevent the United States from meddling in Tehran's affairs and to continue supporting Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and Palestine, a top adviser of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

The remarks of Ali Akbar Velayati, Khamenei's adviser for international affairs, echo those made by the ayatollah earlier this month.

Ali Akbar Velayati also believes that Iran's assistance to Iraq has been instrumental in containing Islamic State and preventing militants from marching on Baghdad, the Fars news agency reported.

The brutal Sunni group shocked the world in June 2014 after it seized a third of Iraq's territory, including the second largest city in the country. Islamic State's successes in Iraq and Syria fueled fears that militants would try to capture Baghdad.

Iran was one of the first countries to come to Iraq's assistance.
