Russia’s hi-tech corporation Russian Technologies (Rostec) and Dutch company Royal DSM have signed a memorandum for cooperation in joint production of biotechnologies and ballistic materials for armor protection, Rostec said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s hi-tech corporation Russian Technologies (Rostec) and Dutch company Royal DSM have signed a memorandum for cooperation in joint production of biotechnologies and ballistic materials for armor protection, Rostec said on Tuesday.

The deal was signed late on Monday in Amsterdam in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

“The cooperation with DSM will accelerate the process of introducing new, unique products in the Russian market to be used in different areas, including biotechnology and functional materials. The partnership with DSM is strategic and intended for the long term," Rostec Deputy CEO Vladimir Artyakov was quoted as saying in a statement.

Under the agreement, Rostec and Royal DSM, a global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, will explore potential for the production of biofuels and bio-based products such as bioethanol, biogas and organic acids.

DSM and Rostec will also cooperate in enhancing Russia's optical fiber networks using DSM's UV-curable resins optical fiber materials.

RT-Chemcomposite, part of Rostec and Royal DSM's Dyneema subsidiary will consider establishing production in Russia of UD-sheets based on Ultra High Molecular Weight PE-fibers using DSM’s proprietary technology for armor. The products will be supplied to consumers in Russia and CIS countries, Rostec said.
