Two men who used a knockout drug to rob Moscow suburban train passengers and ended up killing 17 of their victims were sentenced to 22 and 15 years in prison by a Moscow regional court, the Moscow interregional transport investigation department said.

The two would circulate in train stations and on trains looking for passengers who were both well-dressed and intoxicated. They would then offer their target a drink laced with the neuroleptic drug azaleptin.

Once the victim lost consciousness, the two men would take everything of value and disappear. However, 17 of their victims died from the drug and 15 others needed treatment in intensive care.

The court sentenced Alexey Vyhovskiy, 25, to 22 years and 3 months. His accomplice Shuhrat Djuraev got 15 years. Another accomplice, 26-year-old Ilya Trubanov, died before the case came to trial.
