Afghanistan's presidential office casted back issues by the New York Times and the Washington Post, saying the Central Intelligence Agency, CIA, pays officials in Afghan President Hamid Karzai's administration.
"Afghanistan believes that such groundless allegations may negatively impact the alliance against terrorism," the presidential office said in a statement.
On August 26, The New York Times reported the CIA had been paying chief of administration for Afghanistan's National Security Council Mohammed Zia Salehi, who was arrested last month as part of an investigation into corruption. The Washington Post reported the CIA has paid to a large number of officials around Karzai.
The allegations came just when the United Sates stepped up efforts to force Afghan officials to make government less corrupted.
"We decry such sweeping accusations which cast slur on the reputation of the Afghan responsible executives," the Afghan statement said.
