MOSCOW, June 30 (RIA Novosti) - World No. 1 Dinara Safina and fellow Russian Yelena Dementieva defeated on Tuesday their quarterfinal opponents at Wimbledon and will play the Williams sisters in the women's singles semifinals.
Safina will now play 3rd seed Venus Williams of the United States, while Dementieva is set for a tough match against Venus' sister Serena (seeded 2).
Top seed Safina enjoyed a narrow victory over unseeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany, losing the first set but coming back to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1.
Dementieva (seeded 4) crushed Italy's Franceska Schiavone in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
