MOSCOW, April 15 (RIA Novosti) - UC RusAl, the world's largest aluminum and alumina producer, said on Tuesday its aluminum output increased 9.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2008 to 1.1 million metric tons.

United Company RusAl, which became the world's largest aluminum producer after a March 2007 merger between RusAl, rival Sual and Swiss Glencore's alumina assets, said its output grew in the reporting period after its aluminum smelter in the Republic of Khakassia in southern Siberia started to operate at full capacity.

Alumina production climbed 3.5% to 2.84 million metric tons and bauxite output went up 13.1% to 4.56 million metric tons in the reporting period, RusAl said.

"The first three months saw stable growth of all production figures, demonstrating how successful the three way merger to create the united company has been in its first year," RusAl CEO Alexander Bulygin said.
