MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow condemns the terrorist attack in Beirut, which killed four people on Friday, and urges swift presidential elections in Lebanon, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
A powerful explosion shook a parking lot in the Christian area in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The bomb targeted Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, killing Captain Wissam Eid and his bodyguard. Eid participated in a military operation in May 2007 against the radical Fath al-Islam group.
"We condemn yet another bloody terrorist attack" Mikhail Kamynin said, adding that the blast further demonstrates "the danger of the current presidential power vacuum."
Lebanon has witnessed a protracted political crisis as its parliament has been unable to elect a president since November 23 over disputes between the ruling majority and the Hezbollah-led opposition.
