Six parties could gain seats in Ukrainian parliament - poll

KIEV, February 8 (RIA Novosti) - According to the results of a recent survey in Ukraine, six political parties and blocs have a chance of gaining seats in the country's parliament, the Supreme Rada, at the March 2006 elections.

In the poll, conducted by the Razumkov Research Center from January 26 through 3, 29.9% of respondents said they would vote for the pro-Russian Party of Regions led by Viktor Yanukovych, former premier and a candidate in the 2004 presidential elections.

The pro-presidential bloc Our Ukraine was supported by 19.6% of respondents, while the bloc led by Yuliya Tymoshenko, former prime minister and once a close ally of President Viktor Yushchenko, received support from 13.7%.

The Communist Party gained support from 6.8%, the Socialist Party from 6.7%, and 3.3% said they would vote for the Popular Bloc of Volodymyr Lytvyn, Speaker of the Supreme Rada.

According to the survey, Natalya Vitrenko's Popular Opposition bloc (2%), the anti-Yushchenko bloc Ne Tak (1.5%), and Pora PRP (1.1%) would not make it into parliament.

Support for other parties totaled less than 1%.

The survey was conducted throughout the country, including in the capital Kiev, involving 2016 respondents over the age of 18.
