MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - According to verified data, nine civilians were killed in last week's militant attack on Nalchik, the capital of the North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the republican president's press secretary said Monday.
Earlier reports had said 12 people had died.
"Three [killed] servicemen were wearing civilian clothes... They were therefore initially thought to be ordinary people," Dzhamilya Khagarova said, citing a forensic report.
A total of nine civilians were killed in the attacks, seven of whom have been identified, Khagarova said.
A total of 45 people are still being treated in hospital.
