GROZNY, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - The first group of forced migrants from Chechnya who stayed in the Pankisi Gorge (Georgia) returned to their homeland on Sunday.

On arriving in Chechnya, 18 people were sent to a temporary settlement in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, a source in the migration department of the Chechen Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

The Russian embassy in Georgia helped the forced migrants get papers needed to cross the state border and return to Chechnya, the source said.

According to UN data, there are over 900 refugees from Chechnya in Georgia.
